Japanese cherry trees

In 2020 the Embassy of Japan in the UK initiated the Sakura Cherry Tree Project, the flagship project of the Japan-UK Season of Culture. This event has seen thousands of cherry trees donated by Japanese businesses planted at sites around the UK. Through our local MP, Alex Sobel,  Headingley Community Orchard was offered 15 trees. We planted them in the War Memorial site in late February 2021 and look forward to seeing them grow and blossom.

We’re hoping to add more seating at the war memorial site. Our circular bench around the Ribston Pippin gets very full when the weather’s half decent and it would be great to provide more benches from which to admire the cherry blossom!
