One of the fixed points in our ‘normal’ year is Apple Day, which takes place in October. It’s an opportunity for us to talk to local people about what we do, as well as celebrate all things apple. Unfortunately we weren’t able to hold it last year as we couldn’t meet social distancing requirements. Fingers crossed for October 2021 and Apple Day at Heart on Saturday October 23rd. Apart from that, we mainly look after our four main sites, plus the mini ochard behind the Natural Food Store and the fruit trees at HEART. We have regular(ish) working groups.
Our latest activity has been to plant 15 Japanese flowering cherry trees in the War Memorial site as part of the Sakura Cherry Tree Project, the flagship project of the Japan-UK Season of Culture.
As well as regular maintenance work, during the last year we’ve worked on the back of the Parish Centre at St Chad’s and the border of its carpark. More fruit trees and wildflowers too.
