The Headingley Community Orchard is an informal initiative that operates under the auspices of the Headingley Development Trust, a community-owned organisation that promotes and develops a sustainable community in Headingley.
We're mainly people who live in or have some connection with the area. We're interested in doing practical things to improve the environment and we're keen to cooperate and work with other groups in the locality.
If we can't beg or borrow what we need, we have to find money for things like fence posts, trees, stakes, and a first aid kit. We rely on membership fees and donations to fund these materials. Membership of the Headingley Community Orchard group only costs £1, though we're delighted to receive an additional donation from people who can afford to pay more. If you'd like to join, just let us know via the 'Contact' page and we'll email you all the necessary details. You can sign up to get emails about our activities without becoming a member, if you'd prefer it.
Since we got going we've had generous support from Wades Charity, the Tudor Trust and St Chad's Small Grants Fund, for which we are very grateful. St Chad's Small Grant Fund recently gave us the money to buy a gazebo - particularly handy for events held at the war memorial orchard site. If you're a local community group and interested in borrowing it, do get in touch.
